ROV drilling unit working against subsea rock

Capabilities

SUBSEA CAPABILITIES

ROV-based rock drilling under water — horizontally into rock faces and vertically into the seabed — plus anchoring, bolting, cable operations and ROV inspection.

HORIZONTAL SUBSEA ROCK DRILLING

NorClean has developed systems capable of drilling horizontally directly into underwater rock faces using a work-class ROV.

The ROV and drilling system can be positioned against steep or vertical subsea rock formations where conventional equipment or diver-based methods can be difficult to use.

02

VERTICAL SUBSEA ROCK DRILLING

ROV-based drilling directly into rock on the seabed for anchors, bolts, foundations and other subsea installations.

The ROV is set down over the drilling point and drills vertically into the bedrock, so attachment points are established in solid rock rather than in loose seabed material.

Up to 6 metres into subsea rock

Through specialized technology and collaboration, Norclean can provide drilling up to 6 metres into subsea rock — both horizontally into rock faces and vertically into rock on the seabed.

Anchoring & bolting

Drilling, installation and grouting of subsea anchor bolts.

NorClean has experience installing hundreds of bolts through both smaller and larger subsea operations.

04

Cable installation & infrastructure

ROV operations related to subsea cables, including drilling, securing cables, installation support, cable handling and specialized intervention.

For Nexans operations in 2019 and 2023, NorClean drilled horizontally into subsea rock for anchor bolts and installed concrete mattresses at the cable landfall.

Aquaculture operations

Subsea anchoring and mooring solutions for aquaculture installations.

The system can drill into bedrock and create secure attachment points at depth without relying on divers.

SUBSEA ROV SERVICES

The work-class ROV can also perform a broad range of subsea tasks beyond drilling.

  • Subsea inspection
  • Video documentation
  • Cable operations
  • Cable removal
  • Chain and wire cutting
  • Mooring operations
  • Recovery operations
  • Manipulator work
  • Seabed intervention
  • Custom subsea operations

Custom ROV operations

Some subsea operations require more than standard equipment. A large part of NorClean's capability is building and adapting tooling and systems for the specific operation.

When an operation falls outside what existing equipment can handle, we build the tooling, modify the ROV system and plan the execution around the conditions on site.
